General FAQs

Where are you located? Do you travel?

qathet Media is located in the city of Powell River, BC on the Sunshine Coast. Despite being classified as a “remote” community it’s easy to get here by ferry or by place. Meaning it’s also easy for me to travel wherever you require my services.

I have captured images for clients across Canada, the United States. Europe and Asia and love travelling!

I am located outside of Powell River. Are your rates inclusive of travel costs?

Travel costs are not included in our Service rates and will be negotiated. I believe in connection and forging longterm relationships over transactions so will always endeavour to provide options to suit every budget.

Are your rates inclusive of taxes?

Yes! With the exception of travel (see above) or agreed upon Add-ons for our listed packages, our rates are as you see them here. We will always be transparent before, during and after our collaboration with you.

What’s your style?

I specialize in capturing moments as they unfold, natural, authentic. This translates to how I post-process photography or colour grade videos - I aim to make things look real while still appealing and cinematic. However, I am a storyteller and artist at heart and am always growing and learning new skills and at the time of writing, I am experimenting more with flash photography and more stylized imagery because… why not?!

Providing you with the images that best represent your vibe or the brand of your business is my highest priority. This is why so many of my Services include a pre-consultation so we can connect, get to know each other and agree upon a vision for the story we are capturing.

When I book your photography or video services, will there be a contract?

For most of the services I offer, yes. A contract puts my promise to you in black and white and protects both of us. It’s about transparency, consistency, reliability and professionalism. Values I take very seriously.

Do you back-up all photos and videos?

Yes. I have a detailed asset protection process from shoot to final delivery as well as long term archiving.

Do you have a backup camera body?

I do. It’s not one of the cool new kids on the block but it has been responsible for capturing 75% of the best images in photo and video that II’ve ever captured and it still has lots of life in it.

What kind of payment do you accept?

I accept cash, e-transfer and if it’s in person, all major debit cards, credit cards and mobile wallets such as Apple Pay, Google Pay and Square Pay. Unfortunately we do not accept cheques or any form of crypto currency at this time.

Photography FAQs

How soon before my Event, Engagement or Wedding celebration should I book your photography services?

Earlier is always better. It gives us time to plan and most importantly, time to get to know one another - it’s a critical part of my process and what makes qathet Media unique. However, life happens, things get forgotten and curveballs come fast and furious… so it’s always worth reaching out. For Weddings and Grads, at least 2 weeks before is preferred but if you want to guarantee my availability, two to three months before is better.

What should I wear to our photo session?

I’ll provide you with a Style Sheet Guide before our pre-consultation so if you have any questions or concerns we can talk about it then.

Do I need to wear make-up?

That’s your choice. If it makes you feel more confident and happy, please do. My style is more on the authentic, natural side of things so if you do choose to wear make-up, take the same approach. If you need recommendations for good local make-up or hair stylists, just ask me and I’ll connect you.

Can I get all the unedited photos you capture from our session?

I don’t typically provide this. Editing your photos and ensuring you receive the best of the best is part of the service I am proud of. Also, how my photos look represents my voice and brand identity and providing photos that may not align with that is bad for business. However, I’m open to discussing this further if you feel you need everything.

Can you photoshop me?

Most shoots, especially Event and Wedding photography, result in many hundreds sometimes even thousands of images. This makes time-consuming photo altering impossible. Also, qathet Media’s expertise is in capturing the natural connections between people and place - deep editing for us is just not authentic.

How long will it take after my photoshoot to receive my photos?

This depends on the scale of the shoot. For smaller portrait sessions you can expect your images within 1 to 2 business days. For larger projects, 3 to 5 business days. If you need your images faster than this, let me know and I’ll do our best to accommodate.

How will I receive my photos?

Final images from our photoshoot are uploaded to a private and secure image gallery that you can download from. If you prefer them to be delivered physically via a USB stick I can provide that for an additional fee.

Can I share my images on social media?

Yes! I love it when you love your photos so much you want to share them with the world! All I ask is that you credit me as the photographer and provide a backlink or tag to my page on the platform you are posting on. qathet Media is on Facebook and Instagram - if you’re posting on a different platform, please link back to the homepage of this website.

Will you be using any of the images you capture from our photo session or event on qathet Media’s social platforms or for any kind of promotion without my consent?

This is covered in the contract we both sign when you decide to engage my services. qathet Media retains copyright of all images and we may use select images for portfolio, website, or promotional purposes, unless you request otherwise in writing. For our smaller services where no contract is required, I will always seek your consent before using any images captured.

Do you provide printing services?

Yes! Depending on the preferred medium you choose, I always try to support local businesses in Powell River and print locally. However, should you require specialty printed items such as fridge magnets, mugs and other non-paper products, I can out-source to other businesses across Canada. We always find the best price possible.

Can I print my photos myself?

Of course! They are your photos and there really is nothing better than a physical print you can display to all. However, please be aware that not all prints are created equal… Have you ever seen TVs in a retail store with colours turned up, contrast maxed out and motion looking weird? It’s a similar thing with photos and I would hate to see someone warm up or add a green cast to my images that I have spent a great deal of time capturing and editing. I’m happy to make prints of whatever images you require or at the very least, recommend businesses in Powell River that will do your photos (and you!) justice.

Videography FAQs

Do you film Elopement videos?

Yes! Our “Short and Sweet” package is ideal for Elopements. We can also customize the “Feature Presentation” Wedding video package to suit an Elopement.

Can I provide music for the video you create of my Wedding or for my business?

I typically use stock licensed music that can be used anywhere. The stock music library I use has a vast selection of tracks in every genre and style imaginable. However, if you have a favourite track you want to use for your wedding or other personal event, we can certainly include it. Please be aware that this will mean the video cannot be shared publicly (for example on YouTube) or it will likely receive a copyright strike and get pulled.

I’m hiring someone else to capture my wedding photos, I’m worried you’ll be competing for the same images.

That’s a common concern but no need to worry. I always collaborate closely with the wedding photographer to ensure we both work around each other seamlessly.

Can you provide short video edits in a vertical format for social media?

Absolutely! Most of our video packages have a Vertical add-on option. Talk to me about it in our pre-consultation session and who knows, maybe we can make you go viral!

How long does it take after filming a video for me to receive the final version?

This depends on the type and scale of the project. Turnarounds vary from 1 to 2 business days to 5 to 10 business days. I typically prioritize projects in order of booking. If you have a rush-job, let me know and I will always try and accommodate.

What is the process for creating a video for my business? Do I need to provide a script or storyboards? Is there a feedback process?

You're the expert at what you do and I’m the expert at what I do. Through our pre-consultation we find the sweet spot where I can use the knowledge you have of your business and target audience to create a script and production plan. Depending on the type and scale of video project we are creating, there will be client approval stages before production commences and after the first delivery of an edit. This gives you ample opportunity to provide feedback. I have over twenty years of experience making videos and at this point revisions are usually minimal.

My video will require specialty elements (for example, actors, voice-over narration, motion graphics, music) - do I need to provide these elements?

No. That’s why you’ve come to qathet Media to create your video. We have experience in every aspect of video production and will handle everything for you. If it’s a video for your business I am creating, all I will need from you will be your business brand elements including high resolution logo, brand colours and font packages.

What technical specifications can I expect with my final video?

We deliver in 4K, 16:9 aspect ratio with a frame rate of 23.98 fps. This ensures the best, most cinematic quality while meeting the technical specifications of most devices and platforms you’re likely to need to play or upload the video to. If you require different specifications, just let us know.

What equipment do use to create your videos?

We use Canon cameras and a wide range of top quality supporting equipment from top reliable brands. For post-production editing we use DaVinci Resolve.

I’m not sure my business needs a video…

Everyone wants a video! Videos are cool and highly sharable! However, if you’re a business looking to promote your service offerings or expand your customer base, a video may indeed not be the best use of your marketing budget. I have many years experience not just in photography and videography but also in graphic design, branding, social media, website development and marketing. Consider a consulting engagement first to ascertain whether a video will be of benefit. Fostering long term relationships and building connections that last in our community is our mission and we will never up-sell when a service offering might not be right for you.
